| We study the variational Hartree-Fock ground-state energy for a two-dimensional Wigner crystal induced by a strong magnetic field in the fractional quantum Hall effect regime. Effects of inter-Landau-level mixing on the total energy are considered. Exchange energies from inter-Landau level mixing are estimated. Our results show that the exchange effect from Landau-level mixing is not small. It has the same order of magnitude of lowering the Wigner crystal energy as the correlation effect from Landau-level mixing does. If both effects are considered, the Wigner crystal state is more stable than the incompressible fluid state in the low density or large effective mass regime. |
